My name is Romana and I am a 27 year old, self-taught watercolour artist. You may know me better as @trace_the_moon, the name under which I run my Instagram account, on which I share my paintings with over 194k art lovers.
My watercolour journey started almost 5 years ago, when I simply picked up a brush and went for it. But frustration kicked in really fast, because there is a lot to know before you start creating paintings like the ones I dreamt of making. So I educated myself as much as I could: I studied paper, brushes, how to design templates and trace them on my watercolour paper, techniques... And then I practiced, practiced and practiced some more.
I have now been selling my work for quite some time, but I realised I wanted something more. Teaching is something I love to do, and painting is so much more than a hobby for me: it’s a way of relaxing and being proud of myself for creating beautiful art.
And that is why I decided to share that same feeling with you.
Course Content
The course consists of 7 modules for a total of 11+ hours of content and includes 11 templates to learn from & practice along with. We start at the very beginning, understanding supplies, techniques, colours & values, and practicing some fundamentals with a series of exercises, after which we move on to creating various botanical artworks - crowning all that you have learned with a final, enchanting bouquet.
In this video, I want to guide you through the different sections of the course and show you what you will be learning, in a step-by-step process created to make you easily understand and replicate every action. You can pause and replay the videos as much as you want.

MODULE 1: INTRODUCTION TO WATERCOLOUR
Introduction about me, the course, and watercolour as a medium.
MODULE 2: SUPPLIES & TECHNIQUES
This module covers the basics of supplies, including sketching tools, brushes, and the differences between pans and tubes. You'll explore various types of watercolour paper and learn crucial techniques such as Wet on Wet vs. Wet on Dry, blending, and creating gradients.
MODULE 3: COLOURS & VALUES
Dive into the vibrant world of colours, mastering primary, secondary, and tertiary colours, understanding values & gradients, and creating your own colour wheel.
MODULE 4: EXERCISES
8 different exercises using different watercolour techniques to help you develop control over water and colour application.
MODULE 5: LEAVES
In this section, you'll learn how to paint leaves that appear flexible and lifelike, focusing on the anatomy of a bend and the way that light interacts with surfaces to create depth.
MODULE 6: FLOWERS
In this section, you'll discover the step-by-step techniques for painting flowers, starting with basic colours and gradually building up layers to capture depth & details in your petals.
MODULE 7: PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
Combine all the skills and techniques you’ve acquired to create a final, cohesive piece of art. Together we will bring your vision to life with 2 big, beautiful flower compositions.
