My name is Romana and I am a 27 year old, self-taught watercolour artist. You may know me better as @trace_the_moon, the name under which I run my Instagram account, on which I share my paintings with over 193k art lovers.
My watercolour journey started almost 5 years ago, when I simply picked up a brush and went for it. But frustration kicked in really fast, because there is a lot to know before you start creating paintings like the ones I dreamt of making. So I educated myself as much as I could: I studied paper, brushes, how to design templates and trace them on my watercolour paper, techniques... And then I practiced, practiced and practiced some more.
I have now been selling my work for quite some time, but I realised I wanted something more. Teaching is something I love to do, and painting is so much more than a hobby for me: it’s a way of relaxing and being proud of myself for creating beautiful art.
And that is why I decided to share that same feeling with you.

In this lesson, you’ll learn to layer vibrant blues, greens, and golds for rich plumage, paint the intricate “eye” pattern of a peacock feather, and build bold blues, greens, and warm yellows for striking macaw feathers. You’ll also capture expressive eyes and a curved beak, highlight the vivid contrast in the macaw’s coloring, and use metallic accents to add shimmer and depth to your work.
